MuteMath

I saw a new band (new to me), MuteMath on Thursday at The Avalon. I really liked them--they kind of sound like they have been inspired by The Police, but more current. I first heard of them when I saw their video on YouTube (you shoud really watch this video) for their song Typical which is rad because it is filmed backwards. The lead singer taught himself to sing the lyrics backward so it would match when they played it forward. Wicked cool. I have a new crush--the lead singer is ubercute AND he plays the keytar! The drummer was also very cool--he plays so hard, that when he puts his headphones on, he tapes them to his head with duct tape! They are pretty wild--they jump all over the stage, leap over keyboards and drums, and throw in all kinds of acrobatics! Those of you in SLC can check them out Tuesday night at Club Sound.

Come Fly with Me...

Last weekend, while Sean and I were in Utah, we took a flight abord "Fojtek's Friendly Skies." Our good buddy, John Fojtek, got his pilot's license a few months back and even though he only got a 98% on his flight test, we decided we would risk entrusting our lives with his skills anyway. We flew up to my old home--Jackson Hole, WY--and had breakfast at the Bunnery--my fave! It had been a little over 5 years since Sean and I had been up to Jackson Hole for our honeymoon, but it was just as I remembered it.

We got up early and headed to the Bountiful Sky Park. We were greeted with water bottles, pretzels, and even a Dove Chocolate compliments of the airline. It was a smooth sailing and beautiful flight into Jackson. The views were incredible!

After a windy return flight, we made it safely back. Some of us survived the turbulance a little better than others, right Shel?

Thanks to John and Shelly for taking us on such an exciting adventure!

**Note to 1998 Woods Cross Graduates: Dave Axenty was John's flight instructor! What a co-inky-dink!

A Utah Man Am I...

Though I wouldn't have fathomed that it could happen, our Utes (with their quarterback, running back, and reciever all out of commission) pulled out a stunning 44 to 6 defeat over the Bruins of UCLA on Saturday! (Which is a little better than that school from Provo could do last week! Zing....) Sean and I tried to show support for both schools, but when it comes down to it, we realized we will always bleed RED!!We started off the game with some tailgating on the U of U golf course. It was my daddy's 55th birthday and he said he couldn't have asked for a better one! The Utes win, the Cougs lose-pretty much a perfect day!

Pat and Linds got themselves some lovely matching $5 shirts!

Kent & Shauni came out to cheer on their alma mater as well!

Once...

I got to Utah last night and Sean and I took in a matinee of Once today.
Please do yourself a favor and go see this charming, beautiful film.

Also, if anyone in the LA area is interested, Sean and I are going to the Swell Season concert at the Wiltern on the 10th of November. We'd love to share a magical, musical night with ya'll.

Two Good Shows and Two Good Nights

Last night I went to the El Rey Theatre to see Lucinda Williams with Kimber and Chad. I had no idea that this gal was so rad. She is amazing and energetic and so funny. She was non-stop entertainment from 9:30-12:30**. She brought out special guests--Emmy Lou Harris, John Doe, and a few other old country/folk rocksters and we danced the night away! Other than the strung out girl who fell on Kimber and then wanted to be her best friend, the night was flawless and fun!

I don't know if any of you have seen Once, I actually haven't yet, but I fully intend to. This band, The Frames', music is featured throughout. In fact, the lead singer is the lead role in the movie. The Frames are an Irish mellow rockish band that I very much enjoyed. And I especially liked their accents! Thanks to the mother of one of my students who gave me these tickets she couldn't use.

I think I have found a new favorite song: Falling Slowly. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=938XY6DX02w It makes me miss my hubby! (Some of you may not know that Sean is on a 5 week externship tour...he's been gone 2 weeks, so only 3 to go!)

**Please note that the term "school night" does not apply to me." **

Funny Student Story

Do you remember being in elementary school school and there is a Heather K. and a Heather R. in your class or Jed P. and a Jed A.?

Well, it happens almost every year that there is a large number of kids in my class with the same name. One year I had 4 Taylors--2 boys and 2 girls. Then another year, I had 3 Austins. This year there are 4 named Alex and 2 named Alec in 3rd grade!! (Couldn't these parents be a little more creative when choosing their names?!? --maybe they were all really be fans of Family Ties, right Morgan!) So, during roll call, they were asked what they would like to go by this year to differentiate them.

"Do you have a nick name or something else you'd like to be called since we have some many with the same name?" We've established the names they will go by when a little guy--who is very shy, quiet and serious, raises his had and says while trying not to look embarrassed:

Billy: "I have a nickname."
Teacher:"Oh yeah, what is it?"
Billy: "The Big Bomber"

Back to School

Can I get a little respect?!? I am headed back to school with the kids tomorrow, so wish me luck!
